Getting Professional AC Maintenance Done? Know What They'Ll Inspect

Posted on: 21 February 2019

Do you plan on having an HVAC technician come to your home to perform an annual check of your air conditioner? If so, you may be wondering what they'll be doing while to inspect the system. Here what you can expect to happen during the technician's visit.

Thermostat Inspection

While the service call is to look at your air condition, they'll also be sure to look at the brains behind your HVAC system. Your thermostat will be inspected to ensure it's measuring the correct temperature in your home, which has to do with where it is placed in the room and if the device is functioning as intended. This can be done by measuring the temperature of the room and seeing if the thermostat is reading the same temperature. They'll also see if nearby ductwork is interfering with the temperature, or if it continues to read the temperature properly while the AC is turned on.

Refrigerant Inspection

An air conditioner needs refrigerant for it to work, and a lack of refrigerant is what is often responsible for an AC unit that blows hot air. If refrigerant levels are low, they won't just fill it up with more refrigerant and be on their way. They'll need to inspect the HVAC system for a potential refrigerant leak. If the leak is not found, all that new refrigerant will leak right back out over the upcoming weeks.

Part Inspection

There are many moving parts in an air condition that should be inspected, and your HVAC technician will perform their due diligence by checking them all. They'll look at your outdoor compressor as well as the indoor condenser to ensure that everything is working properly.

Some common problem that they'll look out for include blower motors that are not turning at the correct speed, which could be an indication that the part needs replaced. They will also run the air conditioner to verify that the condenser doesn't have an excessive amount of ice buildup. The condensation drain will be inspected to verify that condensation is able to leave the air handler, and even the air filter will be changed to make sure that you don't have any obstructions.

Exposed air duct will also be checked for leaks, which could be where you are losing cold air in your home and warrant repair. Aluminum foil tape can be used to seal up those leaks and make your HVAC system more efficient. Contact a service, like Astro Air Inc, for more assistance.
